Jose’s aunts threw me a bridal shower in Corpus Christi on Saturday, and it was a lot of fun. There are so many things happening right now that are making me stop and think “WOW, we are getting married SOON,” and this shower was one of them!
We got there really early because Jose’s mom needed to help set up the food, so we got a preview of the decorations before anyone showed up (and the boys got kicked out into the backyard). There were white and blue streamers everywhere, good-smelling candles, and little treat boxes that looked like wedding gowns and tuxedos.
I also had to put on a veil and corsage that Jose’s aunt Mary made. They were actually both really cool — she is so crafty! There were tiny corsages for everyone who came, but mine was definitely the biggest. HA.
Finally it was time for the shower to start and all the guests arrived. Most of them were family members — aunts, cousins, and kids — but there were also some family friends that came, so it was nice to meet all of them. There were actually a bunch of people that couldn’t make it because of work and Easter weekend conflicts, but I saw most of them later in the weekend anyway.
We played bridal bingo and Lupe (in the blue shirt) won. My bingo card was crappy — I wasn’t even close! Oh well.
We also played a game called “know the bride and groom.” At the beginning of the shower, Jose’s mom had me introduce myself and include a lot of little details about my background and how Jose and I met. Then later on, everyone was quizzed! Jose’s aunt Ami won, with 12 of 15 correct. The only ones she missed were my middle name (which no one got), and the month and year that Jose and I met.
After the games, it was time to open presents and Jose was allowed to come back inside for that. I even let him open a few.
Ami got one present just for him — a tool kit — so he used the exacto knife from that with glee whenever we encountered a tough-to-open box. We got a lot of great items for our future house, from towels (since we will have three bathrooms) to new sheets to kitchen items and some decor. Two of his aunts even gave us two suitcases, since they know how much we like to travel. It was awesome. But now I wonder — what are the rules on using wedding gifts before the wedding? Can we use them now??
After presents, it was finally time for cake! Jose’s cousin Jennifer got a huge cake from Sam’s that was supposed to feed 100 people. I’m happy — and scared — to report that though we didn’t finish the cake on Saturday, by the end of the family get-together on Sunday that cake was gone. Not one single piece was left!
All in all it was a very fun weekend in Corpus Christi and Jose’s aunts are awesome for throwing me such a nice shower. After this weekend, I can’t WAIT for the wedding!!
